Even in Baden's sunniest region, the Ortenau, where we are blessed with around 1,700 hours of sunshine a year, there are occasionally a few cloudy days when we lose our desire for outdoor activities. But Ortenau also offers plenty of varied cultural and leisure activities for these days. Mineral gallery in Gengenbach
Karl Suhm has been collecting minerals and fossils for over 30 years. These can be admired in the museum, one of the most beautiful private collections in Germany. Among them are many of his own finds from the Black Forest.

The Wenzel mine, once one of the most important in the Black Forest, was opened as a visitor mine in 2001. The heyday of the silver mine was in the second half of the 18th century. Mining ceased here in 1830.
