From a brewery to a guesthouse - the Hanauerhof has a picture-book success story
We like to reminisce about the beginnings of our hotel in Appenweier. Due to our central location in Ortenau, we have always been a place to go for travelers. Business people and travelers who commuted between the Renchtal and the Hanauerland (near Kehl in Central Baden) stopped at the Hanauerhof in Appenweier and fortified themselves with a tasty snack and a cool beer. After a short time, our reputation started to precede us, so that we changed our concept. The mother of the Ernst family expanded the house - a former brewery from 1835 with a guesthouse - piece by piece into the Hanauerhof Hotel in Appenweier.
Since 1987, Hugo Ernst himself has been the owner of the Hanauerhof. He expanded the hotel in Appenweier with a guest house and set up a nostalgic cellar bar, the UNIKUM Appenweier, in the historic vaulted cellar. The historic house is continuously adapted to today's requirements and equipped with contemporary comfort. Nevertheless, a little tradition may not be missing. Lovingly selected decorations and a bit of Black Forest charm resonate in every room.

Hugo Ernst's son, Patrick, is also a hotelier with heart and soul. Together with his wife, Annika Ernst, he took over the family business from his father in July 2022 and looks after the well-being of the guests with warm hospitality. In the family network, the Gastro-Team Albiez GmbH, in which Patrick Ernst is managing director together with his brother-in-law Benjamin Albiez and his sister-in-law Angela Bock, has two more hotels in the Black Forest (Waldhotel am Notschreipass & Naturparkhotel Grüner Baum) in addition to the Hanauerhof Hotel.
Contemporary modern furnishings, an informal atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable, and a reference to the region in products and furnishings are particularly important to Annika and Patrick Ernst. This can be felt in the newly renovated comfort double rooms, the bar + lounge UNIKUM, which was redesigned into a modern bar in 2016, as well as in the new restaurant "Klara", which was reopened in 2021 in a completely new ambience.
